AllCare Orthodontic Center delivers perfect smiles through the care of high quality AAO/ABO orthodontists

What does this title mean?

AAO is the American Association of Orthodontics and all three of AllCare’s orthodontists are active members. ABO is the American Board of Orthodontists; again all three orthodontists are diplomates of the ABO. The American Board of Orthodontics grants a diplomate status to a select few as the highest plateau of attainment in education, evaluation, excellence and ethics in the profession. All of AllCare’s orthodontists are also professors at the Department of Orthodontics University of Illinois at Chicago. AllCare Orthodontic Center can take pride of these credentials and qualities.

What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is not just for children and teenagers. AllCare services adults, teens and children with their individual orthodontic needs. Orthodontics utilizes appliances, braces and elastics to correct misaligned teeth and occlusions, sometimes together or alone. Orthodontics can also be used to correct what may be considered a facial imbalance or prevent future ones. Orthodontic care is not only for esthetics but for function as well!

What is an Orthodontist?

According to the ABO’s website, an orthodontist is a dentist who has completed an American Dental Association accredited graduate program in the specialty of orthodontics. Graduates from a specialty program become an orthodontic specialist and are eligible to become board certified through the voluntary examination process of ABO. The certification process is a demonstration of the orthodontist’s pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence.

Who are these orthodontists? Let’s meet them!

While they do not have red S’s on their chests, they certainly are super at what they do!

Our first orthodontist is Dr. Budi Kusnoto, D.D.S, M.S. Dr. Kusnoto is a graduate of the University of Illinois and earned his orthodontic certificate in 1998. In 2005, Dr. Kusnoto became a board certified orthodontist. He is a tenured associate professor as well as clinic director at the Department of Orthodontics University of Illinois at Chicago where he teaches dentists to become orthodontists. Dr. Kusnoto is an internationally recognized author, lecturer, researcher, and inventor in the field of orthodontics. He regularly lectures and teaches in both clinical and research aspects of orthodontics across the country. In addition, he is also actively involved with the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists and the Illinois Society of Orthodontists.

Our second orthodontist is Dr. Maria Therese Galang-Boquiren, D.M.D., M.S. Dr. Galang is an assistant professor and director of the Pre-doctoral Orthodontic Program at UIC. She is also a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago orthodontic program and has given lectures both here and abroad as well. Like Dr. Kusnoto, Dr. Galang has authored various publications on orthodontic topics. Dr. Galang is well known to be very detail-oriented and meticulous with her work, which is why she makes a powerful team member at AllCare Orthodontic Center.

Finally, we meet our third orthodontist, Dr. Phimon Atsawasuwan, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D. Dr. Atsawasuwan is a known researcher and specializing in both orthodontics as well as periodontics. He is an assistant professor at the Department of Orthodontics, University of Illinois at Chicago. He is very active with cutting edge education, knowledge and techniques in the research and clinical aspects of orthodontics. He was recognized by the AAO as one of the recipients of prestigious Thomas M. Graber Award of Special Merit.

Both Drs. Galang and Atsawasuwan were actually students of Dr. Kusnoto during their orthodontic residency and now, they enjoy working together as colleagues in providing the best orthodontic care for their patients!
